Neem oil is considered an organic product. It is derived from the seeds of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), an evergreen tree native to India. It is extracted by crushing the neem seeds, before water is added. As it has many practical applications, it is a popular choice among gardeners, especially as it can target pests without jeopardising the safety of beneficial insects.
In gardening, it is considered an organic treatment in the handling of fungus, insects, and pests.
There are three main advantages of using neem oil to control insects and disease in your garden:
1. Organic. Neem oil from organically grown neem trees is readily available.
2. Biodegradable. It breaks down quickly and leaves no lasting residue on the plants or in the soil.
3. Non-toxic. When sprayed on the garden, and avoiding direct contact, neem oil is considered safe for pets, humans, wildlife, and beneficial insects (including bees, ladybirds, butterflies, and earthworms).
